COURSE GUIDE

NEWTONMORE
Set amongst the Monadhliath Hills and the Grampian Range, Newtonmore Golf Club lies at the southern end of Badenoch. The golf course follows the contours of the River Spey, which meanders slowly by and in doing so defines the layout of the course. It was originally built over nine holes but subsequently extended in 1906 by James Braid.

By using the elements available to him Mr Braid set out the course in such a way that a golfer could sample the natural beauty of his surroundings and also appreciate the challenge presented by each of the eighteen holes. The golf course plays to 6041 yds., with a premium on keeping the ball in play. Only one par five is complemented by a clutch of tight par fours and challenging par threes. Play to your handicap and you will have played well.

In recent years Newtonmore has undergone a myriad of improvements, including the introduction of an irrigation system and the lengthening of the course to in excess of 6000 yards. In 1996 the club was highly commended for its conservation policy which was established in conjunction with Scottish National Heritage.

Visitor facilities have also improved in tandem with course developments and a warm Highland welcome is assured in the spacious clubhouse.
