Sunday
8th May - Drambuie Welcome Reception
As
the golf classics mature and more players return year after year the social
side of the vents come to the fore.
This
year the Drambuie Highland Golf Classic teed up with an informal drinks
reception on the Sunday afternoon at the wonderful clubhouse at Royal
Dornoch. Auld acquaintances were reintroduced - "Did I not play with
you in the Highland event in 2001?" - and new friendships forged.
The Americans, Dutch, English, Scots, and Germans all enjoyed a little
Drambuie on Ice and readied themselves for some wonderful golf.

Day
1- Brora
With
the Fifth Drambuie Highland Golf Classic underway there really is few
places that can match this particular part of the Highlands in spring.
Overnight rain disappeared and another bright, sunny day appeared for
the first day's play over Brora, the most northerly of the four courses
being played this week.
Brora
offers a stern test for the most discerning club golfer, some lovely holes
and vistas and a great opening day challenge. The best score carded on
the day was a very respectable 35 points from Tony
Brewis with both Don Cruickshank and Bob
Seaton coming in close with 33 points.
If
you're looking for a great way to get your golfing season underway you
couldn't do much better than a visit to the Drambuie Highland Classic.
Golf,
the way it was meant to be played.

Day 2
- Tain
All
golfing mornings should be like this. The sun split the trees at Tain
Golf Club to welcome the players on the Tuesday morning.
Best
and most impressive score of the day was the 36 points
carded by Bill Elston from Greenwood South Carolina.
Close behind on 35 points points was Peter Bevan
from Coombe Hill.
So
in short a most enjoyable day - fast and very difficult greens, glorious
sunshine and a gem of a course.

Day
3- Royal Dornoch
So
it was over the Dornoch Firth towards probably the biggest challenge in
Highland Golf - Royal Dornoch. The course hardly needs introduction to
golfers worldwide and the town itself hit the headlines with Madonna's
wedding in the local cathedral.
The
course was as usual superbly set up, the greens are undulating but true,
if difficult to read. The best score carded on the day was a very respectable
35 points from Tony Brewis with both
Don Cruickshank and Bob Seaton coming
in close with 33 points.

Day
4- Golspie
One
of the unsung layouts in this particular part of Scotland is Brora Golf
Club, designed by the legendary James Braid it was founded in 1889 and
offers a challenge, together with a warm welcome, to all levels of golfer.
The mixture of links, heath and parkland combined with the ever-changing
views from the course offers a unique golfing experience.
The
best score carded on the day was an excellent 37 points
from "Queen" Anne Buckley with Bill
Day and Leon Patterson coming in close with
36 and 35 points respectively.
Nearest
the pin at the 10th was scooped by "Queen" Anne Buckley from
Nazeing in Hertfordshire with Stewart Spence from Royal Aberdeen picking
