The pairs were also unsurprisingly won at a cantor by Chris and his partner Kev Wilson with a superb total of 272 points over the four days. The Brewis and Beal combination couldn’t quite get their crown back this year but we’re sure there will be others to follow.
Day FourThe scores at Kingsbarns were marginally higher than the rest of the week with an average of just over 27 points but Alistair Douglas carded the highest points total of the week with his 40 points. The course was in superb condition given that the growing condisiotns on the east coast have been so difficult so far this year. As an aside it really has to be said that there is not a course in Scotland that can match this golf club for its welcome and hospitality. It is the benchmark for service that the rest of the country should be following - and it's not about money; it's about understanding the guest needs from the bar to the pro shop to the starters box complete with complimentary sunscreen. Once again congratulations to the team at Kingsbarns.
Day ThreeThe visit to Ladybank is always a welcome one and again the weather was kind and the course in full bloom. This parkland course is certainly one of Scotland's finest inland courses alongside the very best and is always a treat for the Clsasic palyers to play. The three high scores were a 38 for Chris Atkinson cementing his lead yet further with a pair of 37's for Kev Wilson and Alistair Douglas. And Scotland beat the Faroes... Day TwoSecond day moved north to the wonderful layout at Scotscraig; year in year out this beautiful golf course never fails to surprise the Classic competitors. Only a few miles south of the Tay Bridge, Scotscraig is easily accessible from both those visiting St Andrews and Carnoustie and provides a wonderful challenge over a wonderfully presented course. The fair weather helped the players and the scoring average jumped an astonishing five points to more than 27. The lead is tied at 70 with Atkinson and Lidgeley reversing their scores from day one with Brewis and Hickey still in the fight. The Nearest the Pin at the 13th was secured by our Belgian/Italian Rene Basilavecchia. The pairs is still being lead by Wilson and Atkinson built from previous experience anyone of the top five is in contention for the top spot. Day OneThe First day of the 2007 Fife Golf Classic was played in overcast but completely dry weather over the remodelled Duke’s Course in St Andrews. The international filed enjoyed a cool day with a stiff breeze and some penalising rough – scores were lowe with the average only getting to just under 22 points! It didn’t stop an excellent 37 from Buckinghamshire based Alan Lidgely with four handicapper Chris Atkinson from the north east posting 33; John Hickey did his score no harm holing with a three iron for an eagle two at eighteen. Early days though…
The team results for day one at The Duke’s Course are below with Alan Lidgeley’s 37 points helping his partner to the top. Previous Pairs Winners Tony Brewis and Janet Beal however remain in touch.
