Day
1 - Turnberry Ailsa & Kintyre The
play on Day One was split over the two wonderful links courses with half
the field going out in the morning over the Open Championship Ailsa course
and the rest over the newer but maturing Kintyre. The Ailsa course was
set up perfectly for scoring and the winds were light. The scoring was
quite high with an excellent 43 from Maie Osborn from Ryston Park with
the leading gent Michael Strawson scoring 35 points. The Kintyre course
proved to be a lot more challenging than its sister with the highest score
of 32 points coming from both Neil Taylor from Blairbeth and Martine Valcke
from Royal Zoute.
Day
2 - Kilmarnock Barassie With
expectations of rain forecast, waterproofs, umbrellas and towels were
on prominent display, what transpired was a day for shirt sleeves, a light
wind and a magnificent day for golf over a superbly set up Championship
standard golf course.
Barassie
lies just to the north of Troon and in the past ten years has undergone
a major transformation of its course and facilities. It now has 27 holes
and excellent new catering and changing facilities. The new layout is
maturing well and the whole presentation of the course is to be complimented.
It
is also a great test of golf. The best score carded on the day was a very
respectable 35 points from Geoffery Towle with both Michael Brown and
Colin McAllister coming in close with 34 points.
Day
3 - Irvine Bogside The
field of play moved to the traditional links setting of Irvine Bogside,
a James Braid designed course and with it brought the finest weather of
the week, beautiful blue skies, sunshine and shirt sleeve conditions.
Although
the conditions were set up prefectly for high scoring Bogside proved at
sterner test than most competitors thought. The highest score of the day
was produced by Bryan Ferris with a very respectable 36 points and following
closely was Antony Watts with 33 points.
